Blackberry Trail: Course Design & Brand Identity

Blackberry Trail is a self-designed backyard par 3 golf course that combines environmental planning, branding, graphic design, and hands-on construction into one cohesive experience. The goal was to create a realistic practice facility that would improve my golf game while delivering the atmosphere and identity of a professional golf course. From determining hole distances and shaping a playable green to designing the course logo, scorecards, flags, and tournament branding, every detail was intentionally developed to create a unified experience.

Research & Inspiration

Before designing Blackberry Trail, I researched golf course layouts, scorecards, logos, and tournament branding to understand what makes a memorable golf experience. I also studied par 3 hole designs and green placement to create a course that challenges different short-game skills. This research guided both the course layout and its overall visual identity.

The Vision

The inspiration for Blackberry Trail came from wanting a more engaging and accessible way to practice golf outside of a traditional driving range. While practicing at local facilities helped develop individual skills, it lacked the atmosphere and strategy of playing an actual course. I wanted to create a space where I could practice meaningful golf shots while enjoying an experience that felt unique and memorable.

My vision was to transform an ordinary backyard into a fully branded par 3 golf course that combined thoughtful course design with a professional visual identity. Every element—from hole layouts and green construction to the logo, scorecards, flags, and tournament branding—was intentionally designed to create a cohesive experience. Rather than focusing only on golf, the project explored how environmental design, branding, and user experience could work together to make a small space feel like a complete destination.

The goal was not only to improve my own practice environment but also to create a place that friends and family could enjoy, demonstrating how careful planning and strong design principles can transform a simple idea into an immersive recreational experience

Ideation & Concept Development

Multiple logo concepts were explored to establish a timeless identity that reflected both the natural setting and traditional golf course branding. The final mark was selected for its simplicity, versatility, and recognizable silhouette.

Development & Construction

Once the final course layout was selected, the available space was measured and mapped to determine the placement of each tee box, fairway, and putting green. The layout was refined to maximize shot variety while maintaining safe playing distances and efficient flow throughout the course.

Brand Experience Visualization

These photorealistic renderings bring the Blackberry Trail concept to life by showcasing the brand across apparel, equipment, promotional materials, and course accessories. By visualizing the complete guest experience before production, these digital mockups demonstrate how a consistent visual identity can create a memorable and professional golf course brand.

Final outcome

The final result was Blackberry Trail, a fully realized backyard par 3 golf course that combines thoughtful course design, cohesive branding, and hands-on construction into a complete recreational experience. Every element from the playable hole layouts and manicured putting green to the custom logo, scorecards, flags, and brand identity was designed to create the feel of a professional golf course on a smaller scale.
